This article discloses a theory and practice of the Business as missions(BAM),
Bam is recently emerged as a new mission strategy for the evangelization of the
unreached peoples in the world. Bam shows a wholistic missionary work of
Lausanne Movement as follows: ¡°The whole church takes
the gospel to the whole world.¡± Bam provides a theory
of lay selfsupporting missionary as well as pastors in missionary
work, specially through their business works. Some missiologists make questions
about an effectiveness of BAM, but Bam is able to practice through showing
biblical world-views on the work and business. The most of the unreached
peoples are economically poor as mission field.
BAM is a proper mission
strategy for unreached areas. BAM mission strategy is not a new one, but it is
a biblical mission strategy in the Bible. Modern church has rediscovered BAM
mission theory today. There are many God¡¯s people who
do evangelist in the Bible. The Bible shows a foundation of BAM missions. Paul
the apostle is a typical model BAM missionary through his tentmaker
ministry(Acts 18:3).
In the mission history of the church the Moravian mission
movement a good model of BAM mission strategy. In order to make BAM mission
strategy successfully, we need a strong missionary identity among the BAM
missionaries in the twenty-first century. And BAM missionaries absolutely need
a training and commitment on church planting work and discipleship. Also they
need the establishment of Christian worldviews on the work and business in the
Bible. BAM mission is to show a kind of effective mission strategy for
missionary works of Korean Church in the twenty-first century.
